Dr. D. Clay Whybark, the Macon G. Patton distinguished professor of operations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School, is president of the International Society for Inventory Research.
Whybark is the director of the Global Manufacturing Research Center at the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise.
The 20-year-old International Society for Inventory Research is dedicated to providing a forum for Western academics to meet with their counterparts in Eastern Europe and Russia. The organization, with more than 250 members from 40 countries, meets every other year and attracts scholars from around the world.
Whybark will oversee several continuing programs with other primarily European organizations, including joint meetings and research projects as well as an international summer school for Ph.D. students and faculty.
A Kenan-Flagler professor since 1990, Whybark previously served as associate editor of the Journal of Operations Management and as editor of the International Journal of Production Economics. He is the founding director of the Global Manufacturing Research Group and past president of the Decision Sciences Institute and the Operations Management Association.
