Geoffrey James is a freelance writer and contributing editor at Red Herring Magazine. His trenchant analyses of technology trends and hard-hitting exposés of high tech fraud have appeared in a wide range of national magazines including Wired, Red Herring Upside, Forbes ASAP, CIO, ComputerWorld, and NetworkWorld.
Geoffrey is the author of seven books. His most recent is Business Wisdom of the Electronic Elite which was reissued in paperback as Success Secrets from Silicon Valley. This book, based on interviews with top executives such as Bill Gates, described how top computer industry executives build winning organizations. Three book clubs selected Business Wisdom for their monthly catalogs and Soundview Executive Book Summaries selected it as a top-thirty business book for the year. It has since been translated into seven languages.
Geoffrey's other books include the classic The Tao of Programming, which is quoted as a canonical book of computer humor" on hundreds of web sites. This book was featured on National Public Radio's Marketplace, was reviewed in the New York Times, selected by the Prentice Hall Book Club and chosen as a Top 10 book of the year by Computer Shopper Magazine.
Geoffrey has extensive experience in broadcast media. For three years he was the co-host of the only business humor radio program in the country hosted on the largest all-talk station in New England. He has frequently appeared as an industry expert on New England Cable News, and has been interviewed on National Public Radio, Armed Forces Radio, Business News Radio, and NBC/Talknet.
Geoffrey has worked with the Washington Speakers Bureau to give keynotes and seminars at many companies including as Gartner, Lucent and Houston Industries. He has frequently been a featured speaker and panelist at industry events including Comdex, InternetWorld and Seybold Seminars.
Before becoming a freelance writer, Geoffrey worked as an software architect and marketing executive in several large computer firms. As an engineer, he was the winner of the Swett Award for Technical Excellence. Previous to this, he was a magna cum laude, phi beta kappa graduate of the University of California, Irvine.
A long-time resident of California, Geoffrey now lives and works in New Hampshire.
