Peter C. Young

Peter C. Young is the E. W. Blanch, Sr. Chair in Risk Management at the University of St. Thomas College of Business. In that capacity he is responsible for the MBA Concentration in Risk and Insurance Management, a program recently ranked 4th in the United States by Best's Review.

Prior to joining St. Thomas in 1994, Dr. Young was a professor of risk management at St. Cloud State University, where he was responsible for developing the undergraduate program in risk management and insurance. That program is now recognized as one of the top undergraduate programs in the United States.

Professor Young has been a visiting professor to City University in London and Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. Currently, he is an honorary visiting professor at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland, and a distinguished scholar at the Center for Risikostyring in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Dr. Young holds a Ph.D. in risk management from the University of Minnesota and a masters degree in public administration (state and local government) from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He is considered a leading expert on risk management, particularly in public sector organizations. He has written extensively on the subject of risk management, including the world's leading risk management textbook, Risk Management and Insurance (McGraw-Hill, 1998), which he co-authors with Michael Smith. The year 2000 saw the publication of two new books: Public Sector Risk Management (Butterworth-Heinemann), coauthored with Martin Fone; and Managing Business Risk (Amacom Books), co-authored with Steven Tippins. Professor Young has been published extensively in academic and practitioner journals as well.

Dr. Young is a consultant to and advises numerous organizations in the insurance and risk management fields. Most recently he has worked with Munich American Risk Partners, the Association of Small Business Development Centers, the Public Risk Management Association, the Association of Local Authority Risk Managers (UK), Marsh, and Deloitte & Touche.
