Robert Shulman currently is Chairman of Markitecture, an organization which designs and supervises the construction of marketing programs. His attention is now focused on successful implementation of marketing strategies.
Prior to Markitecture, he co-founded Copernicus: The Marketing Investment Strategy Group, based in Westport, Connecticut. Dedicated to the improvement of the return on investment of marketing programs through disciplined strategy formulation, Copernicus helped chart the course of American business's pursuit of profitable growth in the era following re-engineering. Shulman, who remains on the board of Copernicus, has more than twenty years of consulting experience in new product marketing, strategic marketing planning and brand development. His past consulting work includes American Express, Holiday Inn, Pizza Hut, Chemical Bank, the National Geographic Society, Southwestern Bell and Mobil.
Prior to his tenure at Copernicus, Shulman was CEO and President of Yankelovich Clancy Shulman, Inc., the world-renowned opinion research organization, for ten years. In an effort to learn first hand the challenges of line marketing management, he also held temporary positions as Chief Marketing Officer at Monsanto's Calgene unit and Special Expeditions, an ecotourism cruise-line. He began his career with the Xerox Corporation in national accounts management.
Drawing from his consulting practice and experience in starting up, turning around and repositioning businesses, Shulman has co-authored three books: The Marketing Revolution: A Radical Manifesto for Dominating the Marketplace (Harper-Collins, 1992); Marketing Myths That Are Killing Business: The Cure for Death Wish Marketing (McGraw-Hill, 1993); and Simulated Test Marketing: Technology for Launching Successful New Products (Lexington Books, 1994). Frequently quoted in the media, Shulman has addressed such noted groups as the American Marketing Association, American Management Association, Advertising Research Foundation, The Conference Board and numerous industry associations.
In addition to being named Westport, Connecticut's Citizen of the Year" in 1990 and being a finalist for the "Connecticut Entrepreneur of the Year" award in 1995, Mr. Shulman has received honors for his pro bono charity work. He serves on the boards of the Immokalee Foundation for Children, The Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Save the Sound, a Connecticut-based conservation organization, and the Westport Arts Center.
Robert's educational background includes the University of Tennessee Graduate Studies in Politics and Communications and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Eisenhower College, where he was named an outstanding alumnus. He resides in Westport, Connecticut with his wife Robin and their two children.
