Vaughan Evans

Vaughan Evans has been advising corporates and financiers on managing strategic risk and opportunity since the mid-1980s. He has worked across the full range of sectors and on an array of assignments in strategy, business planning and investment transactions, varying in scale from <$10 million to >$10 billion. He is distinctly experienced in strategic due diligence, where he has worked for over 25 private equity clients on scores of transactions over the last 25+ years.

Vaughan is an economist by training and after university practised as an economic consultant for 12 years, working mainly overseas on the economic and financial appraisal of investment projects, before joining Bankers Trust Co in the mid-1980s. There he helped build Bankers Trust's leveraged buy-out business into European pre-eminence through advising his colleagues in Private Equity and Structured Finance on the strategic risks and opportunities of their transactions. He left Bankers Trust to set up Vaughan Evans & Partners in 1990 and from 1992-2002 was a senior adviser to the corporate finance practice of Arthur D Little Ltd. There he specialised in advising corporates and financiers in managing risk and achieving value from acquisitions, alliances and strategic investments and helped grow the practice from five to 25 professionals.

He has an M.A. in Economics from Downing College, Cambridge, and is a Sloan Fellow with distinction at the London Business School, where he specialised in finance, business strategy, industry economics and international marketing.

Vaughan is a prolific author. He has written five books, including Key Strategy Tools: The 80+ Tools for Every Manager to Build a Winning Strategy and The Financial Times Essential Guide to Writing a Business Plan: How to Win Backing to Start Up or Grow Your Business. And he is the author of the Backing You! range of books on how thinking of yourself as a business can advance or transform your career.
