Even though all organizations are different, it is useful to study their differences and the ways in which they work.
Writers on Organizations describes the contributions that many prominent management thinkers have made to the study of organizations and how they are managed. D. S. Pugh and D. J. Dickinson have focused their attention on five aspects of organizations — the structure or organizations, the organization in its environment, the management of organizations, decision-making in organizations and people in organizations. Each section discusses a selection of the major writings on these topics.
Originally commisioned by the Administrative Staff College at Henley-on-Thames, Writers on Organizations has now been extensively updated and revised for this fourth edition, with a number of distinguished new contributors, including Thomas J. Peters and Robert Waterman, William Ouchi, Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Harry Braveman, Edgar Schein and James D. Thompson
During my MBA-studies, I was forced to read this extremely boring book.
After concluding my studies, I find the book riveting and a good overview of the great management thinkers (admittedly a small selection, but worthwhile).
Worthless as a text book, but interesting reading for anyone interested in the subject and some small knowledge about beforehand.
