Jeffrey S. Young, one of the founding editors of MacWorld magazine, first met Steve Jobs in 1983. He is the author of the classic unauthorized biography Steve Jobs: The Journey Is the Reward. Young began his career as a reporter with the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner, and started writing about Silicon Valley for the San Jose Mercury News in 1981. He became one of the founding team of editors at MacWorld, was the Northern California correspondent for The Hollywood Reporter for many years, and worked for Forbes Magazine in the 1990s. At the magazine he was a contributing editor from Silicon Valley, writing profiles and business pieces, including a very influential profile of Microsoft's Steve Ballmer that was instrumental in the US Government’s anti-trust suit against the company. In 1997, he co-founded Forbes.com. Young is also the author of Cisco Unauthorized (2001, Prima), Forbes Greatest Technology Stories (1998, Wiley), and Inside MacPaint (1984, Microsoft Press). Over the years he has written a number of annual reports for publicly traded firms, scripted and produced videos and multimedia presentations, written and delivered many speeches, and provided strategic, marketing and public relations consulting to numerous companies. He also supplies due diligence analysis and stock market research in the networking, software and consumer electronics sectors. He is a garagiste winemaker with a small micro-winery — Rose Springs — and lives in Northern California with his wife Janey and three children.
